Hepatitis
MD Cause: Viral infection.
MD Rx: Anti-viral meds, vaccinations
ND Cause: Viral infection, and a weakened Immune System, and a liver starved for nutrients.
Discussion: Three different viruses: hepatitis A; hepatitis B; hepatitis C. And infection with hepatitis A is easy for most people to recover from and has no long-term consequences.
Hepatitis B infections can produce lifelong trouble especially if the infection was acquired in infancy or childhood. The World Health Organization estimates that about 3 million people are living with hepatitis B infections. Most of these people are in Third World countries. Transmission of the virus is through saliva, blood, and body fluids. Having unprotected sex with the person infected with hepatitis B is the most common means of transmission. The World Health Organization states that the hepatitis B vaccination is 95% effective. As with most vaccination statistics, the numbers are often toyed with statistically. I have not done enough research on this to be able to give you a recommendation on whether or not to have your child vaccinated against hepatitis B. Hepatitis C is a blood borne virus and the most common forms of infection are through exposure to small quantities of blood – usually through sharing of needles in people who are injecting street drugs such as heroin. The World Health Organization estimates that 71 million people are suffering from chronic hepatitis C infections. the World Health Organization says that antiviral medicines can cure more than 95% of people with hepatitis C – again I am not sure if this information is entirely accurate. many people infected with hepatitis C can live a long and productive life without liver damage, and others will die from cirrhosis or other liver problems.
The liver is one of the easiest organs to treat with naturopathic medicine. You can surgically remove over 75% of the liver and it will grow back! Naturopathic therapeutics support and promote the ability of the liver to regenerate itself. I studied naturopathic medicine at Bastyr University in Washington state. It was named after John Bastyr one of the pioneers of naturopathic medicine in the 20th century. One of Dr. Bastyr’s tried and true treatments for liver support was fresh squeezed beet juice. There is of phytochemical in the beet juice which encourages the production of new liver cells. Additionally - we give the mineral Selenium as it is very important in overall liver health. Lastly if a person is infected with any of these viruses then we deliver immune support herbs and argentum 23 to try and rid the body of the virus. I have a patient whom I have been treating for 25 years who is infected with hepatitis C. He and a number of his friends contracted hepatitis C at the same time. They are all dead he is still alive and well. He was the only one that did holistic medicine.
My Rx: In addition to the 90 EN:
· Beet Juice: Go to the grocery store and pick up some organic beats. Get the fresh ones, not the ones in a can. Cut the greens from the top of the beet-root, then rinse the red beet under warm water to get the dirt off. Use a juicer (my favorite is the “Champion” brand), juice the beat and drink it down within 15 minutes of making it according to the following schedule:
o Week one: 2 ounces per day
o Week 2: 4 ounces per day
o Week 3: 6 ounces per day
It is okay to mix the beet juice with any other fresh squeezed juice. One of my favorite recipes is: carrot, green apple, beet. It is best if you use organic fruits and veggies, but if they prove too pricey, then get whatever you can. Be advised that at some point during this 21-day program your urine and or your stool will turn red or pink. You will think that you are bleeding. You are not. It is the beet juice. I would only do this program for 21 days at a time. If you like how it makes you feel, then wait two weeks and repeat the entire 21-day program.
· Argentyn 23: 1 teaspoon orally 3 times daily.
· Good Herbs Antimicrobial Support: Acute dose outlined in Part 2, Chapter 6 for 3 months. The go to Good Herbs Liver & Gallbladder Health at the acute dose for 3 months. Then go back to Antimicrobial Support for 3 months, then back to Liver & Gallbladder Health for 3 months.
· Imortalium: 1 bottle per 100 pounds per month. Take in divided doses between meals. If this upsets an empty stomach, then it is OK to eat a piece of fruit when you take it.
