Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
MD Cause: Unknown. Perhaps related to repetitive motion stress to the wrist.
MD Rx: Anti-inflammatory drugs; Pain drugs; Surgery.
ND Cause: Nutrient deficiencies (with an emphasis on the trace mineral manganese); consistent consumption of pro-inflammatory foods.
Discussion: If repetitive motion to the wrist was the cause of carpal tunnel syndrome, then shouldn't all golfers and all hockey players and all baseball players have it? Stress will overpower it if the body is strong the stress will not. The blood vessels and nerves which are in your arm travel into your hand through an anatomical opening called the "carpal tunnel." Connective tissue defines the walls of the tunnel. When the connective tissue dries out, from lack of nutrients, motion of the wrist causes inflammation. The more inflammation that there is the more scar tissue the body creates. The surgical procedures that the MDs advise scrapes away the scar tissue but does nothing to fix the underlying nutrient deficiencies. So in a short amount of time after the surgery we would expect more inflammation to occur. One of the main nutrients involved with the health of the carpal tunnel is the trace mineral manganese.
